WHAT IS CNG CNG is Compressed Natural Gas. When it is under pressure it does not have any taste, smell or any odor. In most cars, CNG is compressed to about 3,000 psi for maximum efficiency. Usage of CNG dates back to the 1860's of Germany and also the US and from then the amount of CNG vehicles started to decrease as gasoline was the alternative until now. While natural gas is still an ingredient in our regular gasoline the amount that is in gasoline is less. CNG was the first choice of fuel. The only differences between the old cars running on CNG and today's are the dual fuel choice, the size and position of the tanks and the amount of pressure in the tanks. 1860's cars had several tanks because of the lack of pressure that one tank could hold. Modern day tanks are compressed to 3,000 to 3,800 psi each. Some modifications from the 18 and 19 hundreds is the amount of natural gas the tank can store. About 8 gallons!

The tanks of the CNG are mounted in the back of the car as you can see in the picture below. The tank feeds the gas to the pipes and in to regulators that are mounted under the hood by the fuel injection or the carburetor. The picture to the right shows a good diagram of how the CNG kit works.
